The Beauty of Blossoming
A Motivational Journal Inspired by Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls is not just about the waterfall. There is beauty in the unique areas around the cataract. This journal features a photo Niagara Falls is not just about the waterfall. There is also beauty in the unique areas around the cataract.
This journal features a floral photo taken among the wildflowers at Dufferin Islands - a nature area located upriver from the brink of the falls.
Over the course of over 40 years, I have visited Niagara during every season - and each season brings a different beauty to the landscape. In the spring, Niagara blossoms. So that is where I find my inspiration for this journal.

About the creation of the Journal
I’m Karen Captline, and I live in Pittsburgh, PA with my husband of 23 years. I’m a graphic designer, and I’ve had the pleasure of publishing two lined journals since undergoing successful cancer treatment in 2021.
The first journal was released in 2022, and is called The Beauty of Persistence. The name was inspired by the persistence of the water that creates the beauty of Niagara Falls.
The second journal was released in 2023, and is called The Beauty of Letting Go. The name was inspired by my favorite time of year to visit Niagara - Autumn. I used a beautiful fall photo of nearby Dufferin Islands to illustrate the idea of trees shedding their leaves to survive the difficult winter.
This third journal was created because the first two journals helped me move beyond just getting back on my feet to truly flourishing in 2024. One day I was immersed in gratitude and looking at a favorite Niagara photo I took years ago, and realized that “blossoming” is what I was experiencing. Niagara had inspired me once again with her bountiful natural areas and gardens, and that favorite photo is on the cover!
If you haven’t purchased either of my first two journals, you might ask yourself, “why Niagara?” I have been a Niagara Falls tourist since I was eight years old. My parents instilled in their children a love of the place they had spent their honeymoon. I have taken over 100 trips to the area over the course of over 40 years. It is a second home to me and the people I love.
If you want to learn more about how the first two journals were created... please feel free to seek out either of the first two journals to read the introductions. There you’ll find brief descriptions of the events that lead to the creation of the journals. They were “born” during a period of my life that included covid challenges, cancer treatment as mentioned earlier, and my 51-year-old husband’s heart surgery.
I’ve told you how my first two journals helped me and how I’m blossoming ... but what does that mean? It means I used those journals to express and collect my thoughts. It means I’ve faced difficult things and put them behind me — taking the lessons forward in gratitude to make my life more fulfilling.
I hope this journal helps you recognize that how you process all experiences — whether joyful, difficult or anything in between — come together to make you the person you are. Blossoming is learning to be grateful for all of it.
It’s easy to be grateful during the good times, but finding gratitude in difficult times is a gift.
Be grateful for everything that makes you YOU. After all — it takes a unique set of circumstances to create you.
Just like the majestic Niagara Falls...the world has only one of you.
The world needs to experience the beauty only you can bring to it!
